The Cradle of Humankind
Where some say it all began! The spectacular Cradle of Humankind is a World Heritage Site, situated about 50 kilometres outside of Johannesburg. It is here that a 2.3 million year old fossil nicknamed “Mrs Ples” was found as well as various other incredible fossils that date back as far as 3.5 million years ago – some of the oldest fossil finds to date. The Lion Park
The Lion Park, an established tourist destination, well loved by locals and foreigners alike, became a popular experience for all over the last 50 years. Having moved to the Cradle of Humankind in July 2016, this new must-see world class facility, called Lion and Safari Park, offers guests a memorable experience.
The new park offers a wealth of exciting activities such as animal interactions, guided game drives and self-drives. You are guaranteed to get super-close to some of Africa’s favourite animals whether you go on an informative guided tour or self-drive. Guests also have the opportunity to engage in the experience of hand feeding a selection of animals including giraffes, ostriches and various other antelope species that roam freely on the 600-hectare property and frequently visit the wetlands in front of ‘the Wetlands’ Bar and Restaurant.

Constitutional Hill
This is the ultimate destination for history fanatics, human rights advocates and art enthusiasts. Constitutional Hill is a South African National Monument. A 20 minute drive (roughly) will take you to one of the country’s most fascinating historical attractions. Tours our held every hour on the hour and will give insight into South Africa’s turbulent past – from the Boer War to the Soweto Uprising, this adventure will outline the dramatic steps this country has gone through to reach its current state of democracy. Constitutional Hill is also home to various temporary art exhibitions.
Apartheid Museum
This engaging and interactive museum is a must-see during your stay in Johannesburg. The first of its kind, The Apartheid Museum is situated within Soweto. It was built to illustrate the rise and fall of Apartheid in South Africa. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece that houses elaborate and poignant exhibitions, which showcase various important markers during a time of state-sanctioned racial discrimination. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
Sandton City
The Sandton City shopping complex is one of Johannesburg’s finest! Here, you can indulge in retail therapy of an international calibre. The complex is home to a myriad fashion, food and retail outlets – all housed in state-of-the-art surrounds. Be sure to visit the Nelson Mandel Square – here you will find a mammoth statue that honours the legacy of our beloved Madiba and promises to be a great photographic experience.

Soweto
Embark on a cultural adventure unlike any other and enjoy a half or full day tour exploring this lively township. Situated just on the outskirts of Johannesburg, Soweto has its roots in the gold mining heyday of the city, where labourers came far and wide to eke out a living in the mines. Many of the tours are interactive – allowing you to meet and engage with residents. You will also be taken to some of the township’s historically significant areas such as the Apartheid Museum and Vilakazi Street (the only street in the world to house two Nobel Prize Winners) where Bishop Desmond Tutu and the late President Nelson Mandela used to reside – this is a not-to-be-missed excursion!
